Fashion Month kicked off in New York last week and as ever we’re as obsessed by the street style as we are by the clothes being strutted down the runways.
We love the chic industry stars who stroll between shows looking fabulous in perfectly put together outfits, and can only wonder at the time it must take them to create such incredible ensembles.
So what are the fashion pack wearing in the Big Apple this season? Here are the six big trends to try in AW19.
1. Boots made for strutting
These boots were made for showing off in…
The AW19 runways were full of big sturdy boots with thick treads but on the streets of New York, the boots are longer and a whole lot sexier.
And while over-the-knee boots were still spotted pounding the sidewalks, it was all about styles that hit just below the knee.
But there were no rules. From shiny gold croc to snake print to cow print to logos to chains, curved heels and even flames, the boots were killer and the wearers looked awesome.
2. Autumnal midriffs
Yep, we thought that now summer is officially over that we could ditch the skin baring outfits and embrace a more cuddly version of ourselves.
But no. The fashionistas at NYFW were rocking their toned midriffs like it was still the height of August.
So it looks like we’ll be wearing high waist trousers, a cropped top and an open jacket this September… (at least until the temperature drops dramatically).
3. Get ahead with a hat
Hats are the biggest accessory trend at NYFW this season
It takes confidence to wear a hat so maybe that’s why it feels like such a statement when we wear one.
AW19’s catwalks were full of headgear of all kinds and it seems the front row posse have taken the trend to heart, rocking hats in various shapes, colours and sizes in New York this week.
From insouciant berets to chic fedoras and every kind of hat in between, this is a major look people so it’s time to become a hat person…
Pick a style that suits and wear with pride.
4. Check it out
Checked blazers were a big trend last year and judging by the streets of New York over the last few days, they’re set to stay.
But don’t restrict yourself to just jackets. Make it match with a tailored suit or how about a belted plaid dress as seen on this stylish guest (above left)?
And colour is no barrier. Branch out from grey and brown and embrace checks in vibrant shades this winter to ensure you stand out from the crowd.
5. Cute dresses
With tailoring, stompy boots and streetwear ruling the runways for the last few seasons, it was a breath of fresh air to see these fashion week guests in cute dresses.
After all, sometimes we just want to wear something feminine and flirty and these minis fit the bill.
We love the marbled print and billowing sleeves of this sky blue frock (above left) and who could resist the adorable baby doll proportions of the pastel checks and frills (above centre)?
And if you’re like us you’ll consider leopard print to be a neutral so this sexy but chic mini (above right) is a look we’ll be copying this season.
6. Colour me mine
There was no missing these beauties at New York Fashion Week.
It wasn’t just their decision to wear colour but the way they wore it; head to toe. Quite literally, if you check out the stylista in acid bright yellow (above left).
These looks are full of sass and these women clearly aren’t afraid to be looked at, so why not take a leaf out their book this season and rock a one colour outfit?
From red to mustard to pink to lilac; a rainbow is your inspiration.
